When you send texts from Raise More, the message has to travel through a company that connects to the phone carriers and actually delivers it to a phone. Raise More works with two of these companies: Twilio and Plivo. You may see one of these names mentioned by our support team or in your account, and you might wonder which one you are using and whether it changes anything for you.
The short answer: for almost everything you do day to day, it does not matter which one routes your texts. Both deliver to the same phones, and both require the same compliance steps. This article explains what each one is, what stays the same either way, and the few things that are worth knowing.
What Twilio and Plivo are, in plain terms
Twilio and Plivo are both "messaging providers." Think of them as the delivery service that sits between Raise More and the cell phone networks. When you hit send on a text campaign, Raise More hands the message to one of these providers, and the provider passes it along to carriers like Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile, who deliver it to your contact's phone.
Twilio is the provider Raise More has used the longest. Plivo is a newer addition. They do the same core job. The difference is mostly behind the scenes, in how Raise More connects to each one.
What stays the same for you
No matter which provider routes a given text, these things are identical:
Your contacts receive the same message on the same phones.
You still need to be registered for A2P 10DLC. This is the carrier requirement for businesses and organizations that send texts to people. "A2P" means application-to-person, and "10DLC" refers to the type of phone number used. Without this registration, carriers will block your texts or send them to spam. This is true with both Twilio and Plivo, and it is part of your account setup either way.
The same texting rules apply: people must be able to opt out, and you must honor opt-outs. The provider does not change your legal obligations.
Replies from your contacts come back into Raise More the same way and show up on the contact's profile.
In other words, the provider is plumbing. The compliance you have to do and the experience your contacts have do not change based on which one is carrying the message.
What you control
Honestly, not much here, and that is by design. You do not pick Twilio or Plivo on a per-message basis. There is no toggle in the message composer that says "send this one through Plivo." The provider is decided when a number is added to your account, based on what the number is for. As a general rule, numbers set up for calling tend to use Twilio, and numbers set up only for texting tend to use Plivo. The exact assignment is handled behind the scenes, so the same account can have some numbers on one provider and some on the other.
What you do control is the normal texting workflow: who you text, what the message says, when it goes out, and keeping your A2P 10DLC registration in good standing. If you ever need to know which provider a specific number uses, or you want to discuss it, reach out to our support team and we can look it up for you.
When it actually matters
For most campaigns, it never comes up. A few situations where the provider can be relevant:
Sending limits. To protect your numbers from being flagged by carriers, Raise More applies some safety limits on how many recipients a single campaign can have. Those limits can differ slightly depending on which provider a number uses. If you are planning a very large send, our team can advise on the best setup.
Picture messages. Sending a text with an image attached works on both, but the exact handling of media can differ between providers. If you rely heavily on picture messages, mention it to support so we can make sure your number is set up the right way.
Troubleshooting. If texts from a particular number are having delivery trouble, knowing which provider routes that number helps our team dig into the issue faster.
If any of these come up, the right move is to contact support rather than trying to change the provider yourself.
Frequently asked questions
Can I choose Twilio or Plivo myself?
No. The provider is assigned when a number is added to your account, based on what the number is used for. It is not something you switch per message. If you need to know which provider a number uses, contact support.
Will my contacts know which provider I am using?
No. They just receive a text. The provider name is not visible to them.
Does one deliver better than the other?
Both are reliable and connect to the same carriers. The biggest factor in whether your texts land is your A2P 10DLC registration and your texting practices, not which provider you are on.
Do I have to register for 10DLC twice if I use both?
Your compliance setup is handled as part of your account. You do not manage separate registrations yourself. If you have questions about your registration status, contact support.
Who do I talk to if I have a question about my texting provider?
Reach out to Raise More support. We can tell you which provider a number uses and help with anything that depends on it.
