How do I restore a removed phone number or email address?

Removed phone numbers and email addresses stay visible on a contact's profile with a strikethrough. You can restore most of them from that same menu.

How removal works

When you remove a phone number or email address, the record is not deleted. It is marked with a removal date and reason, and displayed with a strikethrough on the contact's profile. This applies to both phone numbers and email addresses.

Phone numbers have a separate SMS removal state. A number can be active for calling but removed for texting at the same time. Both states are shown on the profile: the SMS-removed state appears as a crossed-out message icon next to the number, while a fully removed number is shown with strikethrough text.

Restoring a phone number

Open the contact's profile and find the removed phone number in the Phone Numbers section. Click the three-dot menu next to the number and select Restore. The strikethrough will be removed and the number becomes active again for calling.

Note: restoring a phone number restores it for calling. It does not restore the number for texting if it was also removed for texting; the SMS removal is independent.

Restoring an email address

Open the contact's profile and find the removed email address in the Emails section. Click the three-dot menu next to the address.

What you see in the menu depends on why the address was removed:

  • Manually removed: the menu shows Restore. Click it to make the address active again.

  • Unsubscribed: the menu shows Resubscribe. Click it to restore the address and re-enable email sends to it.

  • Repeated soft bounce: the menu shows Restore. Click it to make the address active again.

  • Hard bounce or Spam complaint: the Restore button is shown but is disabled and cannot be clicked. Addresses removed for these reasons cannot be restored from the profile.

The reason an address was removed, along with the date and the user who removed it, appears in a tooltip when you hover over the strikethrough address.

What you cannot restore

  • Email addresses removed due to a hard bounce or a spam complaint cannot be restored from the profile. Re-enabling sends to a mailbox that hard-bounced or submitted a spam complaint creates deliverability and compliance risk.

  • SMS removal is separate from phone removal. Restoring a removed phone number does not restore its texting eligibility.
