California Proposition 1 passed on November 8, 2022.
This proposition will amend the California Constitution to guarantee the right to unrestricted abortion during all 40 weeks of pregnancy, resulting in the legalized abortion of a healthy viable baby up to the moment of his or her birth.
Supporters of Proposition 1 were telling voters that the proposition does not ensure unrestricted, late-term abortion. However, without defined limits in the text of the proposition, there are no limits.
The entire Proposition 1 text stated:
“The state shall not deny or interfere with an individual’s reproductive freedom in their most intimate decisions, which includes their fundamental right to choose to have an abortion and their fundamental right to choose or refuse contraceptives.
This section is intended to further the constitutional right to privacy guaranteed by Section 1, and the constitutional right to not be denied equal protection guaranteed by Section 7. Nothing herein narrows or limits the right to privacy or equal protection.”
Public opinion polling consistently shows that California voters overwhelmingly reject the notion that a baby can be aborted for any reason up until the moment of birth, especially if the baby is healthy and the mother’s life is not at risk. And yet, this is precisely what Proposition 1 will allow.
Statements on California’s Proposition 1
“We are extremely disappointed and saddened that Proposition 1 has passed in California. Despite strong support for some limits on abortion, the majority of California voters chose death over life. We will continue to fight for those who cannot fight for themselves. It’s not acceptable for California to become America’s graveyard for unborn.”
--Karen England and Gina Gleason, Co-Directors for Stop Prop 1
“Perhaps more than anything, the loss of Proposition 1 is a revelation of just how irrelevant the church at-large is in California. This reality is due to the lack of pastors understanding what the calling to the pulpit means. We must not only preach the gospel to the lost, but sadly there’s a profound disconnect at making disciples. Jesus said, 'Let your light so shine before the world,' and we did not. The California Christian community failed to show up to defend the unborn child, but for the few who did—their consciences are clear before the Lord.”

PROPOSITION 1 - An amendment to the CA Constitution to include abortion up to the moment before a baby is born.
Proposition 1 is TOO EXTREME - even for California. It will be on the November 2022 ballot and, if passed by the voters, it will amend the CA Constitution to guarantee that a fully developed baby in the womb, moments away from birth, can legally be aborted. Passage of Proposition 1 will guarantee abortion without limits in California. It's inhumane, It's cruel. It should be illegal.
The thought of terminating the life of a viable baby who is ready to take his or her first breath is abhorrent to most Californians. We must speak up. We must inform others so they can speak up. Every voter must know the truth about this proposition.
Powerful people are actively campaigning to pass Prop 1 and guarantee that this "right" to unlimited, late-term abortion is enshrined in the CA Constitution. However, TOGETHER, we can organize and spread the truth about Proposition 1. We MUST defeat it in November in order to prevent this detestable practice from being guaranteed in CA for many years to come.
