Prerequisites
Before you begin, confirm the following:
Microsoft Teams is installed and running on your computer.
You have Global Administrator permissions in your Microsoft 365 tenant.
You have received an invitation to Reality Defender's web application at your Microsoft Teams email address.
Installation Steps
Follow these steps to install the app:
1. Download the installation .zip file from this link: Reality Defender RealMeeting Installation Package.
2. Navigate to your Teams' App setup policies page, then select the Global (Org-wide default) policy.
3. Enable the Upload custom apps policy.
4. Navigate to your Teams' Manage apps page.
5. Click the Actions menu and select Org-wide app settings.
6. In the side panel, scroll to Custom apps and confirm that both toggles are set to On:
- Let users install and use available apps by default
- Let users interact with custom apps in preview
7. Go back to the Manage apps page, then click the Actions menu and select Upload new app.
8. Upload the .zip file into the modal.
9. To confirm the app is installed, go to the All apps page and either search for the app by name or filter by Custom apps:
Reality Defender RealMeeting should appear in the filtered apps list.
10. Open the app and click the Permissions tab. You must grant consent for the permissions required by Reality Defender RealMeeting to function properly. To complete this, you need to have the Global Administrator role or request the necessary permissions.
11. The Global Administrator can review the permissions and click Accept. For the full list of requested permissions and why each one is needed, see the Permissions Requirement Reference at the end of this article.
12. To install the app for all members or a specific group within your Teams organization, click the Users and group tab and select Install app.
First-use permissions approval
RealMeeting uses delegated Entra ID permissions for some bot actions. Because delegated permissions require a signed-in user, it’s recommended that a Microsoft Entra Global Administrator start a test meeting and add the RealMeeting app after installation. For usage instructions, see the RealMeeting user guide.
To prevent other users from being prompted, the Global Administrator should select Consent on behalf of your organization during approval.
Enable RealMeeting Access for Your Users
In the Reality Defender web application, provide your users with access to RealMeeting and assign the appropriate roles. For more detailed information on RealMeeting roles and permissions, please consult the RealMeeting User Guide.
Log in to your Reality Defender web application (app.realitydefender.ai) and navigate to the Team page.
Find the user you want to update, click the … menu in their row, then select Manage user.
Under Products, check RealMeeting.
Select the appropriate role from the dropdown (e.g., Admin, Contributor, or Viewer), then click Save changes.
If the intended user isn't currently a member of your Reality Defender org, click the Invite team button to invite them. Enter their email address, then select RealMeeting and the appropriate role.
Note: Users must have the same email address for both their Microsoft Teams account and their Reality Defender account to ensure the provisioning process works correctly.
Next Steps
Installation is complete. To confirm the app is working, start a meeting and add RealMeeting from the meeting Apps menu. Permissions Requirement Reference
The RealMeeting app requests permissions through Microsoft Entra ID authorization models, which grant permissions to the app registration. The Access column indicates whether the permission is used by the application itself or on behalf of a signed-in user (delegated).

Note: Delegated Entra ID permissions require a signed-in user, so they may be requested the first time the RealMeeting app is used. See the first-use permissions approval step above for the admin approval process.
