How do I draw a site?

At Restor, we believe that anyone can make a positive impact on the environment. Drawing a site allows you to mark and define specific areas anywhere in the world.
Follow these steps to draw a site on Restor:

  1. Go to the + Add to map button and click on New Site:
To begin drawing your site, locate the yellow add to map button on the platform and click on it. From the options that appear, select add to map to initiate the site drawing process.

  2. Zoom in or search for the location:
You have two options to specify the location of your site. First, you can zoom in on the desired area on the map. Alternatively, you can enter the name of the location in the search field to quickly find it.

  3. Start drawing the boundaries of the site:
Once you have located the desired location on the map, click anywhere within that area to start drawing the boundaries of your site:

    • Important Notes for Drawing Boundaries:

      • Accuracy Matters: Ensure your site boundary accurately reflects the area where your project or activities take place. Avoid drawing boundaries that are overly large or span entire countries unless your work genuinely covers such an area.

      • Avoid Triangles: Triangles can be misleading and often don’t represent real-world boundaries effectively. Opt for shapes that more naturally reflect the actual area of your work.

      • Use Official Polygons: If you have access to official polygons (e.g., from government sources, project documents, or GIS data), use those as your boundary. If not, reach out to the Restor team for guidance on creating one using free tools.

      • Draw Thoughtfully: If you must draw the boundary manually, take care to make it as representative of your actual work area as possible.

    • Technical Tips:

      • The surface area of the site cannot be smaller than 50 square meters or larger than 10,000 square kilometers.

      • A site must have a minimum of 4 points to form a closed shape.

      • Click on any point to drag it, view its coordinates, or delete it. Hold Shift to delete multiple points at once.

      • Complete the boundary by clicking on the starting point.

  4. Analyze the area and save it as a site:
When you have completed drawing the shape of your site, click the yellow Analyze Area button to assess the area. Once satisfied, click on Save as Site to proceed.

  5. Fill out the site information:
Provide essential details about the site, including the site name,a description, Site management, Ownership status, Site status, Site type, Intervention type, Intervention start date, Goals and Support sought.
Upload site photos and click continue.
