Some email platforms require a "recent contacts" segment during setup. This helps ensure we don't add contacts you already have.
What you need to create
Create a segment in your email platform with:
Contacts added in the last 24–48 hours — This segment should dynamically update as new contacts are added.
What you'll do during setup
When connecting your email platform, you'll either:
Enter the Segment ID, or
Select the segment from a dropdown
Which platforms require this
You may need to create this segment if you are using:
Sendlane
Iterable
Omnisend
Beehiiv
Why this matters
When you first connect your account, we check your full audience once. After that, we only check recent contacts using this segment. This helps avoid adding contacts you already have, keeps your audience clean, and reduces unnecessary syncing.
How Fin Should Behave
When user asks "what do I need?" — Include the segment requirement ONLY if their ESP is one of the platforms listed above. Not globally.
When user is confused — Translate: Segment = List / Audience / Group (depending on their ESP).
Avoid over-explaining — Do NOT say "API efficiency," "data load," or "sync architecture." Keep it as: "helps avoid adding contacts you already have."
Escalation trigger — If user says "I don't know how to find Segment ID" or "Where do I create this," link to ESP docs or route to support (especially for Omnisend / Iterable).
