ReturnLogic allows you to decide whether your Store Credit return option will issue gift cards (the default) or use Shopify's store credit option.
What's the Difference?
Shopify's store credit is linked to a customer's Shopify account and will be accessible to the shopper so long as they are logged into their account. Gift cards have a code that is sent to the shopper and it does not link to their Shopify account, anyone with the code can use the gift card.
If your shopper does not currently have a Shopify customer account and you have Shopify store credit enabled, an account will be created for them based on the email address they provided.
Gift cards are also usually more regulated when it comes to expiration, whereas store credit can be expired when issued via returns or loyalty programs. However, make sure to check our your jurisdiction for specific laws, as ReturnLogic is not responsible for any store credit/gift card laws and violations.
Enabling Shopify Store Credit
First off, you need to have Sign-in Links enabled in your Shopify settings along with Customer Accounts (not the legacy version). Once that's done, make sure you also toggle Store credit on the same page.
Next, you'll head into ReturnLogic and to Settings > General Policies to enable Store Credit as the issue type.
Don't forget to save and publish settings! From this point on, the store credit return type will map to Shopify's Store Credit option.
As always, you can reach out to support@returnlogic.com or use the live chat inside the platform with any questions.
