If there are certain items that should not be offered to a shopper during an exchange, designate these products in Exchange Product Exclusions. You can edit these settings on the General Policies Settings page.

Step-by-Step:

Shopify:

  1. Identify any products that should not be offered to the shopper during the item selection process for an exchange.

  2. Open Shopify and click on Products.

  3. Scroll through the product list and select an item that should not be included in the exchange catalog. Click on the item's title to open the product page.

  4. Once the product page is open scroll down to Tags.

  5. Designate a tag name. This can be anything. You can use a pre-existing tag but please be aware that any items containing the tag will not be offered to the shopper to choose from during an exchange.

  6. Type the tag name into the text field and click Add. We typically recommend "RL Exclusion".

  7. Click Save.

  8. Repeat steps 3-7 until you are finished tagging all of the items to be excluded.

  9. Return back to the Exchange Product Exclusion Settings located in the ReturnLogic platform.

  10. Add the designated tag name into the Exchange Product Exclusion field. If there is more than one tag name, separate the tags with a comma.

  11. Click Save and then Publish.

BigCommerce:

  1. Identify any products that should not be offered to the shopper during the item selection process for an exchange

  2. Open BigCommerce and Click on Products.

  3. Scroll through the product view and select an item that should not be included in the exchange catalog. Click on the title of the product to open the product edit page

  4. Scroll to or select Custom Fields from the left side panel.

  5. Click on + Add Custom Field

  6. In the Custom Field Name box add rl_tag, this indicates to ReturnLogic that it should pay attention to the information available to that particular custom field.

  7. In the Custom Field Value box designate a name for the exclusion. This can be whatever makes the most sense for your workflow. We typically recommend "ReturnLogic Exclusion"

  8. Click Save in the bottom right-hand corner

  9. Repeat steps 3 - 8 until you are finished tagging all of the products that should be excluded.

  10. Return to the Exchange Product Exclusion Settings located in the ReturnLogic platform.

  11. Add the designated Custom Field Value into the Exchange Product Exclusion Field. If there is more than one Custom Field Value separate them with a comma.

  12. Click Save and Publish

Your Exclusions will now not be offered when a shopper is selecting an item in return for an exchange.

*Important Note:*
There is one caveat worth mentioning before you proceed with selecting items to exclude. Any items you exclude will not be available to your shopper as an exchange, even if they purchased the same item.
