De-Emphasizing Refunds

What is it?

In this version of de-emphasizing refunds, we have enabled you to visually de-emphasize the refund option to shoppers in the Return Center.

How It Works:

  1. Navigate to Settings > Return Types

  2. Select the blue "pencil" icon next to Refund.

  3. Select "De-emphasize Refunds"

  4. Select "Save"

How It Looks For Shoppers:

Why is it important?

Coming into the busiest time of year for returns, many of you have expressed interest in increasing revenue retention for your businesses.

De-emphasizing the refund option within our standard Return Center will draw more attention to alternative return types, like Exchanges and Store Credit without fully eliminating the refund option. This will allow customers to still complete refund requests while naturally leading them to other options that are more revenue-retention friendly.

What to expect

You should expect to see your customers more often opting for an alternative return type (whether that be store credit or exchanges) over requesting refunds. This should ultimately lead to an uptick in exchange orders and gift cards being issued, thus keeping the customer and their money in your business instead of simply refunding them and risking the customer going elsewhere.

Cautionary Note: If, after turning this new feature on, you experience an uptick in customer calls to your support team asking for a refund or claiming they're unable to request a refund, you can quickly turn off this new feature by following the below steps:

  1. Navigate to Settings > Return Types

  2. Select the blue "pencil" icon next to Refund.

  3. Select "Standard"

  4. Select "Save"

This will revert the display back to the standard display, which clearly shows the refund option to the shopper when they are selecting their preferred return type.
