VSP requires an authorization to be pulled for services (exam and/or frames, lenses, and contact lenses) before a claim can be filed. Aloha helps make this process easier! This authorization number will be listed on the insurance snapshot that you see in Aloha. When it's set up to do this, this snapshot will also be saved in the patient's electronic health record (EHR).
Note: In Eyefinity, users have the option to capture an authorization for all services or for the individual services separately. Authorizations pulled from Aloha will be for all services (exam and materials).
Here are the steps to get an authorization for a VSP patient:
Find the Patient: In Aloha, search for the patient.
Go to Authorizations: Click on the "Authorizations" section.
Choose the Right One: Look at the list of authorizations. If the patient has more than one vision plan, there might be a few choices. Pick the one you need by checking the box next to it. Keep in mind that these authorizations usually cover all services, like the eye exam and glasses or contacts.
Start the Process: Click the blue "Save" button. This will begin pulling the authorization.
See the Progress: You'll go back to the results page, and you'll see a spinning circle. This shows that the system is working to get the authorization.
See the Details: After it's done, click on the "Authorizations" section again (like in step 2). You'll be able to see the date and time the authorization was pulled.
Deleting: If you need to delete an authorization, click the "Edit" button next to it. Then, click "delete" and then "save" to confirm.
