Being able to split payments between relatives is essential for an efficient checkout process, so let's break it down! 🤑

For this example, we will use our favorite patient, Macy Marks, and her family. She has a spouse named Mark and son named Maxwell (or Max). Macy is the patient that typically pays for the family and would be considered a card-holder for the family.

The first thing you will need to verify is that all family members in Clerk are listed as Related People under the Details tab of the Patient Profile:

Next, you will want to make sure that each Patient requiring a payment has an Invoice created for them. After Products/Services have been added to those Invoices, from the Invoice of the Patient that is paying, you will begin to take a payment. In this example, Macy will be paying for Max. Then, you will complete the following Steps:

  • Step 1: Under Amount, add in the amount the patient wants to pay on the current invoice.

  • Step 2: Select Split Payment, and from the dropdown choose the relatives invoice they are wishing to pay for.

  • Step 3: Under Split Amount, add in the dollar amount the Patient wishes to pay towards their relatives invoice.

  • Step 4: Click ADD PAYMENT to charge the patient the total amount entered for both invoices.

Once you Add Payment, the Invoice Page will show that you paid for both Patients:

And just like that, you've taken a payment for your family! 🤩
