You may have wondered why Clerk utilizes a Two Factor Verification Code (2FA) when logging in and whether or not you can turn this feature off in Clerk. The short answer is No, however, there is a great reason why this feature remains - and great news, you can choose the frequency at which you receive it, whether it be every time you log in, every week, or every month.

Two Factor Verification Codes are becoming a common Internet standard as a way to safeguard information and to keep accounts secure. This is done by providing a unique code to a designated communication method (such as a phone number and/or email address) that only the User should have access to.

More and more websites are beginning to urge their users to utilize these safety measures to protect their accounts. While many sites will allow you to put off setting up a two-factor verification system, Clerk does not because it hosts patient data, and we want to ensure high quality HIPAA compliancy! 🤩
