Can I ride with my underage child?

In France, the law does not set an explicit minimum age for children to ride as passengers on motorized two-wheeled vehicles. However, children must be able to place their feet on the footrests of the vehicle. In practice, this generally excludes children under the age of 5 or 6.

Wearing an approved helmet that is appropriate for the child's size is mandatory. Wearing approved gloves, a jacket, pants, and high-top shoes is strongly recommended, although not always mandatory. For younger children, there are special seats equipped with a harness or an approved belt for two-wheeled vehicles.

In Spain, it is possible to carry a minor passenger under certain strict conditions. The child must be at least 12 years old. However, between the ages of 7 and 11, they may be carried if the driver is one of their parents, their legal guardian, or an adult expressly authorized by them.

Passengers must wear an approved helmet, suitable protective gloves, and be seated correctly on a seat with footrests. For young children, an appropriate restraint system (approved harness or belt) is also required if the seat is equipped with one.
