Operating as an independent contractor offers significant freedom, flexibility, and opportunity. This guide outlines your key responsibilities and explains the support Road Ninja provides to help you succeed.

Managing Your Tax and ACC Obligations

As an independent contractor on the Road Ninja platform, you are responsible for managing your own tax payments and ACC levies. To simplify this process, we have partnered with Hnry, a service specifically designed for independent contractors/sole traders in New Zealand.

Hnry is a service that can streamline your financial administration, allowing you to focus on driving. When you use their service, they automatically calculate and pay your taxes and ACC levies from your income, then transfer the remainder to your personal bank account.

Key Features of the Hnry Service

Stress-Free Payments

You can have your earnings from Road Ninja paid directly into your Hnry account. Hnry then automatically calculates and pays the correct amount of income tax and ACC levies on your behalf. The remaining balance is transferred directly to your personal bank account.

Affordable Fees

Hnry charges a transparent fee of 1% of the income processed, which is equivalent to $1 for every $100 you earn.

Exclusive Driver Discount

As a benefit of our partnership, Road Ninja drivers who sign up for Hnry will receive a $25 credit applied to their account when you signing up through Road Ninja.

Planning for Leave and Time Off

A key aspect of being an independent contractor is that traditional employment benefits, such as paid annual leave and sick pay, are not included.

This structure, however, provides you with the control to plan for your own time off. We recommend that you factor this into the hourly rates you set and proactively set aside a portion of your earnings. This ensures you are financially prepared for both planned holidays and unexpected breaks from work.
