Introduction to AI Agents

Written by John

What is an AI Agent?

An AI Agent is a self-contained, purpose-built AI tool that you configure once-by choosing the AI model of your choice, writing clear instructions for its behavior, setting up guardrails to control what it can and cannot do, and connecting it to your data, documents (either directly or via your Knowledge), and APIs via our integrations.

What AI Agents Can Do?

Handle requests automatically or trigger actions:
Example: An Agent can send alerts when a student’s assignment is overdue, review invoices for errors, or close IT support tickets.

Find answers in your data and tools:
Example: An Agent checks your CRM, Knowledge or apps like Canvas to answer questions such as “When is the project deadline?”

Perform specialized tasks with your instructions:
Example: An Agent can grade essays using your rubric and write personalized feedback, or generate a summary report from a set of documents.

Follow your rules for safety and accuracy:
Example: Agents automatically redact sensitive data (like SSNs), flag answers outside syllabus guidelines, or ensure FERPA/GDPR compliance.

Note: For multi-step processes, like grading, providing feedback, and posting grades to Canvas, or combining data from multiple business tools, use Flows to connect multiple Agents and automate the entire workflow.
