How do "Phone Pickups" work?

Updated over a month ago

We're here to help.

A "Phone Pickup" is recorded each time your device’s screen turns on — whether you unlock the device or simply wake the screen (like when checking a notification, lifting the phone, or triggering motion detection in StandBy/Nightstand mode).

  • Pickups reset daily at 12:00 AM, meaning your count starts fresh at the beginning of each day.

  • This method of tracking pickups is defined by Apple’s Screen Time and is consistent with industry standards.

Because of this, you may see higher-than-expected pickup counts if your phone screen turns on frequently — even if you didn’t actively interact with it.

Reducing Unintended Pickups

If you’d like to reduce false or unintended pickups:

  • Consider turning on "Focus Mode" or "Do Not Disturb" during inactive times.

  • If you use an upright charger with StandBy/Nightstand Mode, try disabling automatic activation of that feature — some users report it reduces ghost pickups significantly.

  • You can also check "Motion & Fitness" settings to reduce screen wake triggers.
