What are "Daily Intentions"?

How and why should I set "Daily Intentions"?

Updated this week

What are "Daily Intentions"?

They’re simple, science-backed goals that guide how you want to use your phone each day.

You’ll set:

• How much total screen time you want per day
• How many times you want to check your phone
• What you’d rather do instead of scrolling (this one’s especially powerful!)

Studies show you’re almost twice as likely to stick to your goals when you set clear intentions and write them down. We recommend starting with goals that feel doable, and challenging yourself only when you’re ready.

When and how do I set them?

Your "Daily Intentions" are set in two ways:

  1. When you first start using Roots (Automatic): During the initial setup, we automatically set default "Screen Time" and "Pickups" intentions based on the "Current Average Phone Usage" you selected.

Note: These two fields aren’t editable during setup, but we are considering making these editable in the future.

  2. Anytime later (Intentional): You can update them anytime by going to:
“Roots > Profile > Scroll down to Daily Intentions > Tap Edit” (on the right).

Your "Balance Score" on the homepage is based on the "Daily Intentions" you’ve set and how closely you're following them.
