What are the different ways to block apps?

And how do they work?

Updated over a week ago

There are 4 ways to block apps:

1) Start blocking now

"On-demand blocking" lets you instantly block distracting apps whenever you need to focus. Unlike scheduled blocks that activate at set times, "On-demand blocking" gives you immediate control over your screen time. Use it for studying, working, or simply taking a break from your phone—without having to wait for a scheduled block to kick in. To use this blocking type, go to "Roots Home > Start blocking now".

2) After reaching a set time limit

Blocks the app after you’ve used it for a set duration.

Example: Max 1 hour on Instagram per day.

3) At a specific time of day

Blocks the app during chosen hours.

Example: No social media from 6–8 AM for a distraction-free morning.

4) All-day, with limited unblocks

Blocks the app all day but allows a limited number of unblocks.

Example: Only 2 unblocks per day for social media apps.
