How can I sync Roots with Apple's "Focus Filters"?

Updated over a week ago

Great news - Roots does integrate with Apple's "Focus Filters"!

You can use Roots blocking directly within your iOS Focus modes to create powerful automation for distraction-free time.

How to set it up:

Step 1) Create an "App Group" in Roots (if you don't have one already)

  • Go to Roots > Blocking > Blocking Settings (top right corner)

  • Tap on App Groups > Create a New App Group

  • Give it a name like "Social Media," "Work Apps," or whatever fits your needs

  • Select the apps you want in that group

Step 2) Set-up "Focus Filters"

  • Go to "Settings > Focus" on your iPhone

  • Select an existing Focus mode (like "Do Not Disturb" or "Work") or create a new one Scroll down to "Focus Filters" and tap "Add Filter"

  • Tap on "Roots - Start blocking" Choose which "Roots App Groups" you want to activate when this "Focus" mode turns on

Now, whenever that Focus mode is active, Roots will automatically start blocking the apps you've selected!

Why this is helpful:

This integration lets you combine Apple's Focus features (like silencing notifications and customizing your home screen) with Roots' powerful app blocking - all triggered automatically based on your schedule or manually with one tap.

For example, you could set up a "Deep Work" Focus that automatically blocks social media apps through Roots, turns on grayscale, and silences non-essential notifications.
