What is "Unblock Friction"?

Updated over 3 weeks ago

We're here to help.

First off, we know this can be frustrating and we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience.

What is "Unblock Friction"?

Unblock Friction is a gentle nudge designed to help you pause, reflect, and make more mindful choices when unblocking apps.

Unblock Friction lets you add a small step before you can unblock apps. Instead of instantly regaining access, you’re prompted to take a moment or perform a simple action — giving your brain a beat to consider if you really want to go through with it.

How it works

When setting up a "Block", you’ll see a section called "Unblock Friction".

Tap on it to choose what users must do before unblocking:

  • Default – Wait a few seconds before the unblock happens

  • Pet a dog – A light-hearted reminder to pause and connect with a furry friend before diving back in 🐶

  • More options coming soon!

Where to find it

"Roots > Blocking > Create or edit a block > Look for “Unblock Friction”

Why it helps

Science shows even a tiny delay before acting on an impulse can help you override automatic behaviors. Whether it's waiting a few seconds or petting a dog, these mini speed bumps can stop a mindless scroll in its tracks.
