“All Except” is blocking apps that it’s not supposed to

Updated this week

We're here to help.

First off, we know this can be frustrating and we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience.

If you’ve already set up an “All Except” block and those allowed apps are still getting blocked, here’s how to fix it.

Quick fix

  • Double-check the list of excluded apps under your “All Except” block to ensure they’re correctly selected.

  • Go to "Help > Reload Blocking" to refresh your blocking rules.

  • Kill and relaunch the Roots app to make sure the settings apply properly.

These steps usually resolve the issue right away.

Help us troubleshoot — Send a quick video

If the issue continues, we’d love a quick screen recording of your blocking setup so we can take a closer look.

  1. Go to "Roots > Blocking"

  2. Tap on each block you’ve set up

  3. Scroll down to show the block details, especially the “All Except” section

Send us the video directly from the app: "Roots > Profile > Account Settings (top of the screen) > Help Center (under Help & Support) > Scroll down to Contact Us".
