Why am I having trouble uninstalling apps?

Updated over a week ago

We're here to help.

First off, we know this can be frustrating and we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience.

If you're trying to uninstall apps but you are not able to — even for apps without any screen time limits — the issue might be caused by Roots’ App Uninstall Protection feature.

This feature is designed to prevent apps from being removed without your knowledge, but it can also block you from uninstalling apps when you need to.

Here’s how to fix it:

  1. Open the "Roots" app

  2. Go to the "Blocking" tab

  3. Tap "Block Settings" (top of the screen)

  4. Toggle off the "App Uninstall Protection"

  5. Now go back and uninstall the apps you want

  6. When you're done, we recommend turning "App Uninstall Protection" back on to keep Roots bulletproof
