How do I set up a 24-hour block in Roots?

Updated over a week ago

We're here to help.

First off, we know this can be frustrating. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience.

If you want to block apps all day, every day—great choice! Setting up a 24-hour block in Roots is simple and helps you stay focused without interruptions.

Here’s how to do it:

  1. Open Roots and go to Blocking

  2. Tap + Add (or edit an existing one)

  3. Choose At a specific time of day

  4. Set the time range from:
    Start: 12:00 AM
    End: 11:59 PM

  5. Select Every Day of the week

  6. Pick the apps you want to block

  7. Save your schedule.

Want to make it even harder to unblock?

  • Monk Mode Difficulty – adds strong friction to unblocking

  • Lock Editing – prevents changes before the blocking is about to kick in

  • Explore the “Make Roots Bulletproof” options for extra difficulty (Under “Blocking Settings”)

Once this is set up, your apps will stay blocked continuously, reapplying every day automatically.
