Why does my FaceTime show "Communication Limit" error even for contacts in my phone?

Updated this week

We're here to help.

If you're seeing a "Communication Limit" error when trying to FaceTime people who are actually in your contacts, we know how frustrating this can be. The good news is that it's usually a quick fix!

How to fix it:

There's a strange Apple bug that can cause this issue in some random cases. Here are two solutions we've seen work:

Option 1: Restart your phone

  • A simple restart often resolves the communication limit glitch

Option 2: Reset "Screen Time" permissions

  • Go to "iOS Settings > Screen Time > Apps with Screen Time Access"

  • Remove Roots access, then re-open the Roots app

  • Re-grant Screen Time permissions when prompted

  • Note: This may cause you to lose your historical screen time data in Roots
