We're here to help.
Great question! Unfortunately, due to Apple's Screen Time API limitations, we can't separate app blocking from website blocking when they're from the same domain.
When you block an app like Facebook, it automatically includes Facebook.com as well - and vice versa. This is actually an Apple restriction, not something we have control over in Roots.
β
Workarounds you can try:
Option 1: Use "All Day (Limited Unblocks)" for controlled access
Set up an "All Day (Limited Unblocks)" block for the app/website
Allow yourself 1-2 unblocks per day with short time limits (5-10 minutes)
Enable "Monk Mode" so you can't exceed your daily limit
This gives you intentional, limited access to both the app and website
Option 2: Strategic blocking timing
Create "Downtime" blocks during your highest temptation times
Keep the app/website accessible during times when you're more likely to use it intentionally for specific purposes
Why this happens
This limitation exists because Apple's Screen Time system groups apps and websites from the same domain together. We're hoping Apple will address this in future updates to their Screen Time system to give users more granular control.
β
We totally understand this isn't ideal - it's one of those Apple limitations that affects all screen time apps, not just Roots.
