We're here to help.
First off, we completely understand how frustrating it is to lose months of tracking history - especially when you've been building those habits and progress. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience.
What likely happened
Your historical screen time data was most likely cleared when your "Screen Time" permissions were reconnected to Roots. This can happen during:
iOS updates
Troubleshooting steps that required reconnecting permissions
Any "Screen Time" permission resets in your iPhone Settings
App reinstalls
Why this happens
Due to Apple's privacy architecture, "Screen Time" data is stored locally on your device and is only accessible while the permission connection remains active. When that connection is reset for any reason, Apple clears the historical link, and the data becomes inaccessible.
Unfortunately, Roots (and all "Screen Time" apps) cannot backup or restore this data because it never leaves your device - this is an Apple limitation, not something we can work around.
Can we recover it?
Unfortunately, once the "Screen Time" permission connection is reset, the historical data cannot be recovered. The data is no longer accessible through Apple's "Screen Time" API.
However, your "iOS Settings > Screen Time" may still show some of your historical data from Apple's side. You might want to check there and take screenshots if you'd like to preserve any records.
Good news - what wasn't lost
While your screen time history is gone, all of these are still intact:
✅ Your blocking rules and schedules
✅ Your "Monk Mode" settings
✅ Your account settings and preferences
✅ Your premium subscription
✅ Your "Streak"
Moving forward
Roots is now tracking fresh from when the permissions were reconnected. Your journey continues, and honestly, the habits you're building matter more than the historical numbers. You've already proven you can do this!
To prevent future data loss
Avoid disconnecting "Screen Time" permissions unless absolutely necessary
If iOS prompts you about "Screen Time" permissions, keep them enabled
Don't delete/reinstall Roots unless required for critical troubleshooting
Before reconnecting "Screen Time" permissions for troubleshooting, try other steps first (like "Reload Blocking" or restarting your device)
