If you find yourself bypassing your blocks or giving in to temptation, you're not alone—it’s a common challenge when building new digital wellness habits. The good news? Roots has several features designed to help you not cheat on your goals and stay committed.
Turn on "Monk Mode"
Go to your blocks and enable "Monk Mode"
This makes it much harder to bypass blocks and adds significant friction when you try to unblock.
Lock editing on your blocks
In your blocks, enable "Lock Editing"
Your blocking setup stays locked—so you don’t override it by editing or deleting in a moment of weakness.
Disable "Pauses"
In your blocking settings, disable pauses.
This removes the temptation to temporarily pause when you feel the urge.
There will be a 24h delay if you re-enable as impulse protection.
Also, you will stop earning new "Pauses." This means you won't accumulate any additional "Pauses" by maintaining your streak while this feature is disabled.
You may even request us to permanently disable pauses by tapping on the chat bubble below.
Mention your Roots-associated email ID: "Roots > Profile > Account Settings (top of the screen) > Tap on Your Name > Account Details > Email".
Request permanent "Emergency Unblock" removal
This will mean we cannot replenish your "Emergency Unblocks" once they are over.
Contact us by tapping on the chat bubble below to permanently disable "Emergency Unblocks" on your account.
Mention your Roots-associated email ID: "Roots > Profile > Account Settings (top of the screen) > Tap on Your Name > Account Details > Email".
Lock iOS Screen Time settings

This way you won't be able disable the iOS Screen Time access to Roots in moments of weakness.
Enable "App Uninstall Protection"
Go to block settings and turn on "App Uninstall Protection."
This prevents you from deleting Roots when you're tempted to bypass your blocks.
Limit adult websites
Go to blocking settings and turn on "Block Adult Content."
This prevents access to adult content through web browsers.
