Seeing Roots twice in "Screen Time" settings

Updated this week

We're here to help.

First off, we know this can be frustrating. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience.

If you're seeing Roots listed twice in your "Screen Time" settings, don't worry - this is a sync issue that's easy to fix.

How to fix it:

Step 1: Turn off both Roots entries

  • Go to Settings > Screen Time > Apps with Screen Time Access

  • Find both Roots entries

  • Toggle both OFF (as shown in the image below)

Step 2: Open the Roots app

  • Launch the Roots app

  • The app will automatically guide you through the "Screen Time" permission setup flow

Step 3: Complete the setup

  • Follow the prompts to grant "Screen Time" access

  • Once complete, only one Roots entry will be active in “Screen Time”

  • The other should be in “Off” position

Step 4: Reload blocking

  • Tap "Help" (at the top of any screen)

  • Tap "Reload Blocking"

  • This ensures your blocking is working properly after the permission reset

Why this happens

Sometimes iOS can create duplicate entries when "Screen Time" permissions are reset or reconnected. Turning both off and letting Roots guide you through a fresh setup clears the duplicate and ensures a clean connection.

Note: Reconnecting "Screen Time" access may result in the loss of historical screen time data within the app.
