We're here to help.
We know how frustrating it can be when the app isn't working smoothly - especially when you're trying to stay on top of your screen time goals. If Roots is crashing, there are a few things you can try to get things running again.

β
1) Update to iOS 18 or later
Running an older version of iOS can cause instability with Roots. Updating to iOS 18 or above is one of the most effective fixes.
β
To update your iPhone:
Open Settings
Tap General
Tap Software Update
If iOS 18 or later is available, tap Download and Install
2) Update to the latest version of Roots
Make sure you're on the most recent version of Roots:
Open the App Store
Tap your profile icon (top right)
Scroll down to see pending updates
If a Roots update is available, tap Update
3) Turn off "Display App Icons"
Loading app icons within your "Blocks" can cause performance issues on certain devices due to iOS limitations.
Go to Roots > Blocking > Settings (top of the screen)
Under Roots Performance, locate "Display App Icons" and toggle it OFF
4) Force quit background apps
Having too many apps open can slow Roots down or cause it to crash.
Swipe up from the bottom of the screen and hold
Close as many background apps as possible
Restart your phone
Then reopen Roots
