Add and Remove a Text Label for a Figure Element

Figure elements can include text labels that are by default their part name, but can be changed to something other than the part name or removed altogether.

Add a Text Label to a Blank Element

  1. Select the desired blank figure element (one with no part data assigned).


  2. Locate the Element Info controls in the toolbar OR right-hand side panel OR the interface surfaced when you double-click a stencil.



    Note that connector lines are not provided with an on-canvas part data interface, and must be modified in the right-hand side panel or toolbar.

  3. For connector lines, make sure the Show Label option is selected.


  4. Type the desired label in the Element Label field.

Add a Text Label that Differs from the Part Name

  1. Select or add the desired stencil or connector line on the Drawing Tool canvas.

  2. Locate the Element Info controls in the toolbar OR right-hand side panel OR the interface surfaced when you double-click a stencil.



    Note that connector lines are not provided with an on-canvas part data interface, and must be modified in the right-hand side panel or toolbar.

  3. For connector lines, make sure the Show Label option is selected.


  4. Click to deselect the Use Part Name as Element Label control.


  5. Replace the part name (which is the default text assigned to the label) with your desired label text in the Element Label field.

  6. The element label text will appear on the canvas for the the selected figure element.

    Note that part references in your application will continue to include the part name, NOT the label.

    Note also that the label is applied only to the selected stencil or connector line. Other elements associated with the same part data will not be given this label unless manually updated as above or replaced with a copy of the modified stencil.

Change a Text Label to Match the Part Name

  1. Select the desired stencil or connector line on the Drawing Tool canvas.

  2. Locate the Element Info controls in the toolbar OR right-hand side panel OR the interface surfaced when you double-click a stencil.



    Note that connector lines are not provided with an on-canvas part data interface, and must be modified in the right-hand side panel or toolbar.

  3. Click to select the Use Part Name as Element Label control.


  4. The element label text will be the same as the part name for the part data associated with the stencil.


Remove a Text Label from a Numbered Element

  1. Select or add the desired stencil or connector line on the Drawing Tool canvas.

  2. Locate the Element Info controls in the toolbar OR right-hand side panel OR the interface surfaced when you double-click a stencil.



    Note that connector lines are not provided with an on-canvas part data interface, and must be modified in the right-hand side panel or toolbar.

  3. Click to deselect the Use Part Name as Element Label control.


  4. Backspace or delete the text in the Element Label field to leave the label blank



    OR

    Click the x to the right of the Element Label field to quickly clear label text.



    OR

  5. For connector lines, deselect the Show Label option.


  6. Your figure element will appear without a text label, though it will retain its assigned part number.
