Edit Part Names and Pluralization

Part names can be changed individually or for multiple parts at once. Plural versions available for parts referenced in your application can be customized if needed. Here's how.

Edit a Single Part's Name

  1. Locate the part you wish to rename in the Parts Panel in the left-hand sidebar of the Drawing Tool OR select an on-canvas stencil assigned data for that part.

  2. Make your desired changes in the part name text field provided in the Parts Panel, the toolbar, the Element Info controls in the right-hand side panel, or the on-canvas controls available when the stencil is double-clicked.

  3. The part name for that part will be updated for all associated stencils and wherever the part is referenced in your description text.
    ​

    ​Note that this change will not be reflected in on-canvas text where stencil labels have been set to display something other than the part name.

Customize the Part Name Pluralization for a Single Part

  1. Locate the part you wish to edit the plural form for in the Parts Panel in the left-hand sidebar of the Drawing Tool OR select an on-canvas stencil assigned data for that part.

  2. Select the Edit Plural option from the menu available through the icon to the right of the part name in the Parts panel, the toolbar, the Element Info controls in the right-hand side panel, or the on-canvas controls available when the stencil is double-clicked.

  3. Click the Edit plural control in the dialog provided.
    ​

  4. Type the desired plural form and click Save.
    ​

    ​

    Note that to return a custom plural to the auto-generated plural form, click the Auto-generate control provided beside the Plural text entry field.

Edit Name and Pluralization for Multiple Parts at Once

  1. Select multiple parts in the Drawing Tool left-hand Parts Panel.

  2. Select Batch Edit Part Names... from the menu at the top of the Parts Panel.
    ​
    ​

  3. Type in the desired singular part name in the field provided.
    ​
    ​


    ​

  4. Use the controls provided as described above to set the plural form if the plural is not set as you'd like or if the Plural text entry field is blank.
    ​
    ​


    ​
    ​Note that it is inadvisable to leave either field blank, as this could disrupt existing part references in ways that are undesirable and can be time-consuming to correct.
    ​
    ​

  5. Click Save to update all selected parts and their tagged references to the new name and plural form you've entered.
