Working on the road: vacation mode, temporary locations, and no fixed address

How vacation mode actually behaves, why you might still be getting leads with it on, whether a temporary location makes you searchable there, and what to do if you don't have a street address to publish.

Vacation mode: what it does

Vacation mode has three parts — a switch, a start date, and an end date. It's only in effect when the switch is on and today falls inside those dates. While it's in effect:

  • Your listing is hidden from search results.

  • You're skipped when we reach out to nearby providers about a new job.

  • Customers who reach your listing directly get an auto-response letting them know you're away.

It turns itself off when the end date passes — you don't have to remember to switch it back.

"I'm in vacation mode and still getting requests?"

Almost always one of these:

  • The end date has already passed. Vacation mode stops applying the moment you're outside the window, even if the switch still looks on. Check the dates, not the toggle.

  • It was saved without a start date, or the start date is in the future. It won't apply until then.

  • The message isn't a new lead. A customer replying on a job you already had, or someone who saved your details earlier, still reaches you. Vacation mode governs new matching, not existing conversations.

If none of those explain it, message us at support@rvhelp.com with roughly when the request arrived and we'll look at it.

Travelling for a season — will I show up where I'm parked?

You can set your location for a stretch of time, with dates. Several of you have asked whether that makes you appear in searches in the new area automatically, and whether your home market holds while you're away.

[VERIFY WITH: Josiah — confirm exactly what a dated temporary location does to search placement and to the original service area, and whether both can be live at once. Providers who travel seasonally are asking directly and we shouldn't guess.]

What we can say now: your service area is what drives whether jobs reach you, and you can draw it yourself rather than relying on a radius. If you're going to be somewhere for a month, updating the service area is the reliable lever.

Trimming the drives you don't want

Draw your service area to cut out the pockets that aren't worth the drive time — over a mountain, the far side of a bay, the other end of a long county. It's a better tool than a radius, which can only get bigger.

If the service-area editor throws an error when you try to save, tell us and include the browser you were using. That's a bug on our side, not something you're doing wrong.

No street address to publish

Full-timers, boondockers, and anyone working out of a rig rather than a shop: you don't have to publish a home address for customers to find you. If your listing is showing an address you don't want shown — or is showing a town you left months ago — message us and we'll fix it.

[VERIFY WITH: Josiah — confirm whether a provider can hide the street address themselves today, or whether this genuinely requires support.]

Vacation Mode: what it does

Vacation Mode temporarily pauses your availability on RV Help for a set period of time.

Vacation Mode has three parts: a toggle, a start date, and an end date. It's only in effect when the toggle is on and the current date falls within the dates you've selected.

While Vacation Mode is active:

  • Your listing is hidden from search results.

  • You're excluded when RV Help reaches out to nearby providers about new jobs.

  • Customers who reach your listing directly receive an automatic response letting them know you're away.

Vacation Mode automatically turns off after the end date passes, so you don't have to remember to turn it off when you return.

I'm in Vacation Mode and still getting requests

If Vacation Mode is turned on but you're still receiving requests, check a few things first:

  • Has the end date already passed? Vacation Mode stops applying once you're outside the selected date range, even if the toggle still appears on.

  • Is the start date missing or in the future? Vacation Mode won't take effect until the selected start date.

  • Is it actually a new lead? Vacation Mode controls new matching and search visibility. Customers can still reply to an existing job or reach you if they already had your information.

If none of these explain what you're seeing, contact support@rvhelp.com and let us know approximately when the request arrived so our team can take a look.

Traveling for a season or Temporary Location? Add a Travel Location

If you're traveling and want to temporarily provide service somewhere outside your default service area, you can use Add Travel Location from your business's service area settings.

When you add a Travel Location, you'll choose your temporary location, set its service area, and select the start and end dates you'll be working there.

When the start date arrives:

  • Your listing becomes active and visible in that location.

  • Your default service area is temporarily disabled.

  • Your Marketplace search placement updates to the temporary location.

  • Your temporary Travel Location remains active through the selected end date.

When setting up your Travel Location, you can also set separate service radiuses for repairs and inspections.

This lets you temporarily move where you're available for work without permanently changing your default service area.

Trimming the drives you don't want

Your service area determines the geographic area where you want to provide service. RV Help's service-area editor allows you to define that area rather than relying only on a radius.

Use the editor to cut out areas that don't make sense for your business — whether that's over a mountain, on the other side of a bay, or simply farther than you're willing to travel.

If you're unable to save changes to your service area or have questions about how to best use the editor, contact support@rvhelp.com with details about what you're trying to change.

No permanent home address? That's okay!

You don't need to use your home address as your business location on RV Help.

If you're a full-time traveler or operate your mobile service business without a fixed address, you can use a business location that reflects where you primarily provide service, such as a campground or state parks.

Your street address is not displayed publicly on your provider listing. Your service area is what determines the geographic area where you're available to provide service.

If your business location is outdated or you need help updating it, contact support@rvhelp.com.
