How to verify your phone number in Twilio

What are Verified Phone Numbers?

Verified phone numbers allow you to use your existing personal or business phone number as the caller ID when your AI agents make outbound calls.

This means prospects and customers will see your familiar phone number instead of a Twilio number, helping increase trust and answer rates.

Verified vs. Incoming Phone Numbers

Incoming Phone Numbers (Twilio numbers):

  • Can receive incoming calls.

  • Can make outbound calls.

  • Assigned to specific agents

Verified Phone Numbers (Your existing numbers):

  • Can make outbound calls.

  • Shows YOUR number to recipients.

  • Cannot receive incoming calls.

πŸ“± How to Add a Verified Phone Number

Step 1: Navigate to Profile

  1. Click on your profile icon in the bottom left.

  2. Select "Profile" from the dropdown menu.

  3. Click on the "Phone Number" tab.

  4. Scroll down to the phone numbers section.

  5. Click the "Add Verified Number" button.

Step 2: Enter Your Phone Number

  1. In the modal that appears, enter the phone number you want to verify.

  2. Please enter the number in the following format, including country code: +15551234567.

  3. Click "Verify Number".

  4. A 6-digit verification code will be displayed on your screen.

Important: You'll need to have access to this phone number right now, as you'll receive an immediate verification call.

Step 3: Answer the Verification Call

  1. Within seconds, you'll receive an automated call at the phone number you entered.

  2. Answer the call - Don't let it go to voicemail!

  3. When prompted during the call, you'll need to enter the verification code using your phone's keypad.

Step 4: Wait for Confirmation

  1. SalesCloser will automatically check if verification was successful.

  2. This usually takes 5-15 seconds.

  3. Once verified, you'll see a success message.

  4. Your verified number is now ready to use!

Troubleshooting

I didn't receive the call.

Solution:

  • Wait 30 seconds - a "Resend Code" button will appear.

  • Click "Resend Code" to receive a new verification call.

  • Ensure your phone isn't blocking calls from unknown numbers.

The call went to voicemail.

Solution:

  • Click the "Resend Code" button (appears after 30 seconds).

  • Don't hang up until you've entered the 6-digit code.

Verification failed.

Solution:

  • If verification fails, a "Try Again" button will be displayed.

  • You can edit the phone number if necessary.

  • Click "Resend Verification Code" to restart the process.

Phone number already exists.

Error: "This phone number is already registered in the system."

Solution:

  • This number is already verified or in use.

  • Check your existing phone numbers list below.

  • Please feel free to contact support if you think this is an error.

Using Verified Numbers with Agents

Assigning to an Agent.

  1. When creating or editing an agent, you can select a verified number.

  2. Go to Agents β†’ Create/Edit Agent.

  3. You can just select your verified number from the dropdown.

Important Limitation.

⚠️ Warning: When you assign a verified number to an agent, the agent CANNOT receive incoming phone calls. Verified numbers are for outbound calling only.

  • The agent can still make outbound calls.

  • The recipient will see your verified number as the caller ID.

  • But incoming calls to that number won't reach the agent.

βœ… Best Practice: Use verified numbers for agents who only make outbound calls (e.g., cold calling, follow-ups) and use Twilio incoming numbers for agents who need to receive calls.

Managing Your Verified Numbers

Viewing Your Numbers

All your verified numbers appear in the phone numbers list on the Profile β†’ Phone Number tab, marked with a "Verified" badge.

Removing a Verified Number

  1. Find the verified number in your phone's list of numbers.

  2. Click the delete/trash icon next to it.

  3. Confirm deletion.

  4. The number will be removed from your account.

Note: Removing a verified number from SalesCloser doesn't affect the actual phone number and won't remove it from Twilio.
