What is First-Party Data (for a Media House)?
First-party data is the information a media house collects directly from its own users — through its own websites, apps, newsletters, or logged-in services. This includes:
Page views and click behavior
Browser information and browser storage
First-party IDs and teh information connected to those IDs
Relational information
Transactional information
Logged-in user profiles
Consent preferences
Search queries
Content interactions (e.g. article reads, video views)
Data that is matched to existing first-part data, such as register data, statistical data and categorizations.
Unlike third-party data, which comes from external sources, first-party data is owned and controlled by the media house. That makes it more reliable, privacy-safe, and future-proof in a world without third-party cookies.
Why is it valuable?
Trust & Consent: It’s collected directly with user permission.
Control: You decide how it's stored, used, and shared.
Relevance: It reflects your real audience and their interests.
Monetization: It can power ad targeting, personalization, and premium audience segments.
