Generally, you can complete the entire process within a day or two. The speed at which the domicile change process can be completed varies on how quickly you can gather and submit the necessary documentation to SavvyNomad, book your trip to Florida, and schedule an appointment at the Sumter Tax Collector’s Office.

Note: if you are registering a vehicle and do not possess the title, you must complete a form for your bank to mail the title to the tax collector’s office and wait for it to arrive on-site. When registering your vehicle, You must visit that tax collector’s office.

  • One Day for Initial Steps: In Florida, the process can begin almost immediately upon your decision to change your domicile. The initial steps, such as registering with a service like SavvyNomad and obtaining a Florida address, can be done in a day.

  • Tax Collector’s Office Visit: You need to visit the Sumter Tax Collector’s Office with the necessary documentation. If all your documents are ready, this could technically be done in a day, assuming appointment availability.

  • Documents Preparation Time: The time to gather documents varies by individual. If you're well-organized and have all the necessary documents (proof of Social Security, photo ID, and proof of residential address provided by SavvyNomad), this could add minimal time to the process.

  • Tax Collector’s Office and Additional Steps: After your Tax Collector’s Office visit, you can get your driver's license and complete your vehicle registration (if applicable) on the same day.
