What are the steps to register a vehicle in Florida as part of establishing a new domicile?

Obtaining a Physical Address: Before registering a vehicle, you need a confirmed address in the new state. This address will be used in the vehicle registration process. SavvyNomad will provide this to you.

Vehicle Inspection: Florida require a vehicle VIN verification for registration. You can complete this (Form 82042) with a law enforcement officer from any state, without the need to drive vehicle to Florida. However, make sure you bring the completed VIN verification form (82042) with you to register your vehicle at the tax collector’s office in Florida if you will not have the vehicle in state.

Gathering Required Documents: You will need to collect several documents to register your vehicle. These include proof of ownership (like a title), proof of Florida insurance, your driver’s license, and your 82042 VIN verification form.

The title must be on site at the tax collector’s office to register your vehicle. If your vehicle has a lien, we can help you request that your bank mail your title to the tax collector’s office. However, you must then visit this specific tax collector’s office where the title is located in order to register your vehicle.

Visiting the Tax Collector’s Office: With your documents, visit the local tax collector’s office to submit your registration application. In addition, all persons who appear on the vehicle’s registration must be present. If one is absent, they must have completed and notarized a Power of Attorney document (Form 82053) beforehand.

Paying Registration Fees: Pay the required vehicle registration fees, which can vary by the type of vehicle.

Receiving Registration and License Plates: Once your application is processed, you will receive your new registration and license plates. Usually, these are provided immediately.
