Setting up automatic mail forwards
The 1583 document you complete with SavvyNomad does not change where your mail is routed. Instead, it just gives us permission to accept mail items for you at your new addresses. If you would like to have mail automatically re-routed from your old address to your new mailing address, you must submit a request to USPS following the instructions below.
Changing your address with USPS
Use the correct address: Make sure to have mail forwarded to your mailing address and not residential address. If you’re on the Basic Domicile plan and do not have a SavvyNomad mailing address: do not set up a mail redirect to have mail redirected to your residential address.
Complete early: Be sure to complete this form before leaving the USA. Sometimes, USPS will make you come into a post office in person to finalize this process.
Complete the form online: You can get started here.
Be patient: auto-forward requests can take up to two to three weeks to take effect.
