Connecting to your diffuser: Searching, Connecting, Come closer and Not nearby

What the connection messages in the app mean, why the app sometimes says 'Come closer', and why a diffuser only works with one phone at a time.

Below each diffuser on the overview is a line that shows the connection status. Here's what they mean:

  • Searching… The app is searching for your diffuser over Bluetooth.

  • Connecting… The diffuser has been found and the connection is being set up.

  • Come closer, I'll keep looking After searching for 15 seconds, it still hasn't been found. Walk towards the diffuser with your phone; the app keeps searching.

  • Not nearby The app isn't searching right now, for example because Bluetooth is off or the app was just in the background.

  • Connected appears on your diffuser's settings page when the connection is active.

You don't need to do anything to connect

As soon as you open the app, it automatically searches for all paired diffusers and connects as soon as one is nearby. You don't need to go to a search screen.

Meanwhile, the schedule just keeps running on the diffuser. You only need a connection to change something: a different schedule, a different setting, a new scent, or on/off.

Why the app drops the connection

If you put the app in the background, it releases the connection. This is deliberate: a diffuser can only be connected to one phone at a time, and on the Smart Aroma Diffuser 2, the buttons on the device don't work while a phone is connected. Open the app again, and it reconnects.

Can't connect

  • Hold your phone close to the diffuser. The Pro has a weak signal; searching takes longer through a wall.

  • Check that Bluetooth is switched on on your phone.

  • Close the Scentech app on other phones or tablets. If the diffuser's light is on while this app isn't connected, another device is holding onto it.

  • After a failed attempt, the app waits a moment before trying again (increasing up to a minute). This is normal: as long as one phone is holding an attempt, no one else can find the diffuser.

  • Do you see "No connection to the diffuser" during an action? Wait until the Connected line or the day bar is shown in colour, and tap again.

Still can't be found? Follow the steps in My diffuser isn't in the list.

Sync clock

The schedule follows the diffuser's clock. If it switches on or off at an odd time, tap the gear icon on the diffuser page and choose Sync clock. The app sets the diffuser's time to match your phone.
