Authoring Checks

The Authoring Checks box lists things you may want to fix before publishing your scorecard.

Written by Jane Lydon

The new Authoring Checks box sits beneath the Score Summary box to the right of your questions and sections. It lists things you may want to fix before locking your scorecard for use.

Overview

  • Advisory only - checks never stop you saving or publishing. They are hints, not errors you must clear.

  • Live - the list updates as you edit the scorecard.

  • Clickable - click a check to jump to the question it refers to, which briefly highlights. For an empty section, you jump to the section instead.

  • All clear - when there is nothing to flag, the box shows ALL CHECKS PASS.

What it means

What to do

A section has no questions yet

Warning

The section is empty, so it adds nothing to the score.

Add questions to the section or remove it.

Question N has an empty or very short title

Error

The question title is missing or under 5 characters.

Give the question a clear, descriptive title.

Question N has zero weighting — it won't affect the score

Warning

The question's weighting is 0, so its answer doesn't change the score.

Set a weighting above 0, unless the question is intentionally unscored.

Question N has no tip for evaluators

Warning

Evaluators have no guidance for this question.

Add a tip explaining how to score it.

Question N has duplicate answer labels

Warning

Two or more answers share the same label (ignoring case).

Rename the answers so each label is distinct.

Question N auto-fails the scorecard on its highest-scoring answer

Warning

The auto-fail (point of failure) flag is on the best answer, which is almost always a mistake.

Check the Rules tab and move the flag to the correct answer.

Auto-fail answers exist, but "Fail All Results in Zero" is off — a fail won't zero the score

Info

An auto-fail still marks the result as failed, but the score isn't set to zero.

Turn on Fail All Results in Zero if a fail should score zero. Otherwise, no action is needed.

Note: Each check has a coloured dot showing whether it is an error, a warning or information. Severity doesn't change how the check behaves.
