We designed the average scores to be calculated as a weighted average and not an arithmetic mean because in the context of scorecards with different weightings for each question, the arithmetic mean is not accurate mathematically.

The arithmetic mean is accurate only if the underlying data is equal and similar but in the Scorecards the questions and their answers have different values.

The weighted average is a type of arithmetic mean. It will take into account the different weightings and the average % will be more accurate from a mathematical point of view. In addition, this is the formula based on which the average is calculated in Scorebuddy: (Sum of Answers – Sum of Failed Sections) / (Maximum Score) x 100.

The Explain Score feature which is available on the score page - More- Explain Score will explain how the score is calculated using the above formula (same formula as the one used for average calculation).
