Full access required — Binders are a full-access feature of SDS Mobile™.
There are two ways to add a new binder in SDS Mobile™. Which method you use depends on your situation:
Method | Best for |
Via SDS Search | When you have a specific product in hand and want to create a new binder and add that SDS to it in a single action. |
Via Binder Management | When setting up your initial binder hierarchy, or when you want to create a binder structure before adding SDS to it. |

Parent binder: when creating a new binder, you will be asked to select a parent binder. This is the location the new binder will sit inside. For example, if you are adding “Flammable Cabinet #4” inside “Machine Shop,” the parent binder is “Machine Shop.”
Method 1 — Add a New Binder via SDS Search
Use this method when you have already found the SDS you want to place in the new binder. The binder is created and the SDS is added to it in a single flow.
This article assumes you have already searched for and located the SDS you want to add. See How to Search for SDS if you need help finding a product.
Step 1
Tap the product name in search results
After running an SDS search, tap any product name in the results list to open its SDS Preview.
Step 2
Tap Add to Binder
On the SDS Preview screen, tap the Add to Binder button.
Step 3
Tap Add New Binder
On the binder selection screen, tap the Add New Binder button at the top of the page.
Tip: If you want to add this SDS to an existing binder instead of creating a new one, select the binder(s) from the list and tap Update Binders. You can select multiple binder locations at once.
Step 4
Name the binder and select its parent binder
Enter a name for the new binder. Then select the parent binder — the location this binder will sit inside within your hierarchy. Tap Save to create it.
Be mindful of where you place new binders. A binder’s position in the hierarchy affects how it appears in search and Offline Mode. Take a moment to confirm the correct parent binder before saving.
Step 5
Tap Save
Tap Save to confirm. The new binder is created and the SDS you started with is automatically added to it.
The new binder now contains the SDS you were viewing. It also appears in your binder hierarchy in Binder Management.
Method 2 — Add a New Binder via Binder Management
Use this method when setting up your initial binder hierarchy or when you want to create binder locations before adding SDS. This is the recommended approach for first-time setup.
Example: To add “Flammable Cabinet #4” inside “Machine Shop” at “Northeast Assembly Plant,” you would navigate into Northeast Assembly Plant → Machine Shop, then add the new binder there.

Step 1
Open Binder Management
Tap the Menu tab in the bottom-left corner and select Binder Management.
Step 2
Navigate to the parent binder
Tap through your binder hierarchy until you reach the binder location that should contain the new binder. Adding the binder here sets it as the correct parent automatically.
Step 3
Tap Add Binder
Tap the Add New Binder button. You will be taken to the binder creation screen.
Step 4
Enter the binder name and confirm the parent binder
Type a name for the new binder. Confirm the parent binder shown is correct — it should reflect the location you navigated to in Step 2. Adjust if needed.
Step 5
Tap Save
Tap Save to create the binder. It appears immediately in your hierarchy at the correct location.
Your new binder is now ready. Note: Binders created via Binder Management are empty until you add SDS to them. See How to Add an SDS to a Binder to populate it.
