Got questions about connecting and using external accounts in Sequence?

Here are the most common ones — with quick explanations and steps to resolve them.

I sent funds to pay down a liability, but they never arrived. Why?

You most likely have a manual liability and haven’t completed the final setup step.

With manual liabilities, Sequence moves money into a holding Pod, but your provider still needs to pull the paymentfrom that Pod.

Make sure you’ve set up AutoPay or scheduled payments with your provider using the holding Pod’s routing and account numbers.

My balance looks wrong — how do I fix it?

Balances for external accounts refresh once every 24 hours.

To get the most accurate view:

  1. Click into the external account

  2. Click “Refresh all account balances” in the top-right corner

If it still looks incorrect, email us at support@getsequence.io and we’ll take a look.

Why can I only send money into my investment account?

Investment accounts in Sequence are destination-only.

We can send funds into them, but we don’t pull funds out, because balances often include both cash and invested assets — not all of which are withdrawable.

I can’t find my bank when trying to connect — what should I do?

Try these steps:

  • Check the spelling

  • Search for alternate names (“Chase” vs “JPMorgan Chase”)

  • If it still doesn’t show up, add it manually as a Destination Account using the routing and account number

Destination Accounts can always receive funds, even if they don’t support Plaid or Finicity.

Transfers are taking longer than expected — is that normal?

Transfer speed depends on the account type and source:

  • Sequence → Sequence: instant

  • Sequence → External: same-day ACH

  • External → Sequence: 1–3 business days

  • Direct liabilities: 2–7 business days

My external account disconnected — can I still use it?

Yes — you can still push funds into the account.

But:

  • We won’t pull funds out until it’s reconnected

  • Rules that depend on that account’s balance won’t run

See Account Disconnections for how to reconnect quickly.

Do Destination Accounts show balances?

No.
Destination Accounts are send-only, so Sequence doesn’t display balances for them.

They’re ideal for:

  • Paying contractors

  • Sending money to family members

  • Routing to accounts your bank won’t connect via Plaid or Finicity

What if I changed my bank login or password?

Your external account may disconnect.

Just reconnect through the provider (Plaid, Finicity, Method, or Spinwheel) the next time you open the account panel.

Can I connect both personal and business accounts?

Yes.

When linking an account, choose the correct beneficiary — your personal name or one of your business entities. This keeps accounts organized and ensures transfers go where they belong.
