Platform Fees

The platform fee for group classes depends on where the students were acquired from, so they differ for public or private group classes.

Private group classes are set up and marketed by the tutor and incur the regular commission rate on Sherpa, 30.7%. This costing will be previewed during the setup stage of a private class in the pricing section. This covers payment processing fees and costs to run the classroom and store the lesson recording and notes as well as VAT.

Public group classes are marketed by Sherpa. We use a variety of methods both externally and internally once a class has been approved. These include website banners in high-traffic areas, pop-ups, curated newsletters and follow-up calls to parents as well as Google search and display ads, Social Media advertisements and physical leaflet distribution.

Including the operating costs of running the group lesson, students acquired publicly will incur a larger platform fee with pay being pre-agreed with Sherpa if they go ahead.

What happens if I make a Private Class, Public?

A great way to reduce your platform fee is by starting off with a private class, filling the first few spaces through your own marketing channels, and then making it public to fill the last remaining slots.

You're only charged the platform fee for the visibility of the class when a student joins. For example, if you start with a private class and sign up two of your existing students, you'll only pay the 30.7% platform fee on those two transactions. If you then make the class public and fill the remaining two spaces, you'll pay 40% on these final two transactions.
