As an alternative to a general "one-size-fits-all" caption or hourly rate, you can add dynamic captions and rates or hide your profile in certain search results.

This means you can customise how and when your services appear, showing the most relevant information to potential clients when they search for a particular subject and level combination.

What are Subject Specific Captions?

Let's use an example to explain.

If you're a GCSE tutor that specialises in Maths but teaches GCSE Maths and A-level Physics, your caption on Sherpa might be 'GCSE Maths Tutor with 15 Years Experience'.

However, if a student searches specifically for a Physics GCSE tutor and your profile appears, this may mislead the student into thinking that you're not a good fit.

Instead, a subject-specific caption changes based on what subject a student has searched for - so you can showcase your specific experience in each subject and level to increase the chance of an enquiry.

In this example, your subject-specific caption for Physics may be 'A-Level Physics Tutor with 15 Years Experience'. The same student would see your profile tailored to their search.

They will help highlight any subject-specific experience and capture the attention of potential students.

What are Subject Specific Rates?

These are separate default hourly rates for each subject and level combination you have listed on your profile.

We understand that different levels of curriculum demand higher preparation and skill-sets to teach, so we enable you to charge different rates accordingly.

These rates will be displayed on your profile and automatically selected when a student creates a booking for the relevant subject.

An example of a search result for a tutor when looking for a GCSE Maths tutor compared to the search result for the same tutor when looking for an A-level Physics tutor.

What is Subject Specific Visibility?

This feature toggles the visibility of your profile in certain search results. It can hide your profile from new students searching only for particular subjects and level combinations.

This way, you can stop receiving new enquiries for any one or more of your qualified subjects (eg. A-level Maths) clearing the way for more of the enquiries which suit your availability.

It's useful if you are not taking on more A-level students, for example, so you don't need to turn down new enquiries or remove all A-level subjects entirely from your profile.

How to Add Subject-Specific Captions and Rates

To add your custom captions and rates, head to your Subjects page. From there, you can select the edit button next to each subject:

A popup will show asking you to state the default rate you want to charge, per hour, for a lesson in that subject. You can also add a subject-specific caption here or leave it blank.

If you choose not to add subject-specific captions for certain subjects and levels, the general caption on your profile will be shown in every search. You can change the general caption in your main profile settings.

Using AI to create Subject Specific Captions

Alternatively, you can also use our AI generative tool on the subjects page to automatically create a customised caption for each subject and level.

Clicking the 'Generate' button will automatically fill in any blank subject-specific captions using the general caption you have saved in your main profile settings as a template.

Adjusting Profile Visibility for Certain Subjects

You can also manage the visibility of your profile for certain subjects from the subjects page.

Use the visibility toggle by each subject to choose whether your profile shows in search results for that subject or not.
