How to Configure Compass Alert Tiles

Written by Shipwell Help

Compass is Shipwell's exception management dashboard. It displays Alert Tiles, each tile represents a category of shipment exception. Alert tiles are fully configurable by company admins, you can enable or disable each type, set thresholds, rename them, and create multiple alerts for different tags.

Where to configure alerts

  1. Go to Manage (top navigation) → Company Settings.

  2. Select DefaultsCompass Alerts.

  3. You will see a list of all configured alert tiles with their status (ON/OFF), name, description, and threshold.

Available alert types

  • Carrier Not Assigned — fires when no carrier is assigned within X hours of pickup

  • Carrier Status — fires when an assigned carrier changes to Inactive or Do Not Use

  • Late Delivery — fires when a shipment is not delivered within X hours of the delivery date/time

  • Late Pickup — fires when a shipment is not picked up within X hours of the pickup date/time

  • No Tracking — fires when no ETA or location update occurs within X hours of going In Transit

  • Running Late — fires when a shipment is behind schedule based on ETA

  • Detention — fires when a carrier is detained at a stop beyond expected time

  • Carrier Insurance Expired — fires when an assigned carrier's insurance has expired

  • Tracking at Risk — fires when a tracking signal is degraded or at risk of being lost

  • Tagged Shipment — fires when any shipment has a specific tag applied

  • Resolved Alerts — shows alerts resolved within the past X hours

How to edit an alert tile

  1. Click the edit icon next to the alert tile you want to change.

  2. You can:

    • Enable or disable the tile using the ON/OFF toggle

    • Set a threshold (e.g., fire the Carrier Not Assigned alert 48 hours before pickup)

    • Rename the alert to match your internal terminology

    • Set manual resolve — whether the alert clears automatically when the condition is resolved, or requires a user to manually dismiss it

  3. Click Save.

Tagged Shipment alerts

The Tagged Shipment alert type is the only alert that can have multiple instances, one per tag. This lets you create separate Compass tiles for different shipment categories (e.g., one tile for "Priority" shipments, another for "Hazmat"). To add a new Tagged Shipment alert, click + Add Alert and select the tag you want to monitor.

Watched Shipments

The Watched Shipments tile shows shipments bookmarked by users via the eye icon on shipment cards. This tile does not have a configurable threshold.
