Pricing Intel: Understanding Lane History and Carrier Rates

Written by Shipwell Help

Shipwell's Pricing Intel feature includes a Lane History section that shows historical rate data for a specific origin-to-destination lane. This article explains how lane history is populated and how results are sorted.

What Is Lane History?

Lane History displays past shipment rate data for a given lane (origin + destination + equipment type combination). It is found within the Pricing Intel tool under Tools > Pricing Intel.

How Is Lane History Populated?

Lane history is populated from your company's historical shipment data within Shipwell. Specifically:

  • "My Data" — Shipments your company has run on that lane appear as data points on the Pricing Intel graph. These are plotted as black dots.

  • External benchmarks — If your company subscribes to external rate services (such as DAT, Truckstop, or Sonar), those rates are shown alongside your historical data as colored lines.

Only shipments that match the exact lane criteria (origin, destination, equipment type) will appear in the history. The data is not filtered by carrier — it reflects all shipments on that lane regardless of which carrier was used.

How Are Results Ordered/Sorted?

Lane history data points are plotted on a timeline graph by shipment date (chronological order) — the most recent data points appear on the right side of the graph and older data points appear to the left. There is no "most recent carrier on top" list view; instead, the data is presented graphically over time.

If you need a tabular breakdown of recent carrier rates on a lane, use the Matching Contract Rates section within Pricing Intel, or check the Rate Confirmation documents on recent shipments for that lane.
