Part 1 — Get Your R+L API Credentials
You will need the following from R+L before configuring anything in Shipwell:
R+L Website Username and Password (your MyRLC login)
RLC Unique Key (API key)
RLC Account # (also called "Customer Code" — found on a previous BOL or invoice)
How to get the API key
Go to the R+L API setup page and log in with your MyRLC credentials.
Fill out the Business Contact Information and Technical Contact Information sections.
Accept the Terms of Service and click Save.
Your API Key (Unique Key) will appear in a yellow box at the top of the page — copy it.
If you do not have a MyRLC account yet, create one at rlcarriers.com/company/myrlc-signup.
Part 2 — Configure R+L in Shipwell
In Shipwell, navigate to the Carrier Profile for R+L Carriers.
Click the Accounts tab in the left margin.
Click Add Account.
Fill in the following:
Account Name (required) — give it a meaningful name (e.g. "R+L Carriers - Main").
Account Credentials (required) — enter your Unique Key (API Key), and Account # as prompted.
Modes (required) — select LTL (and any others that apply).
Origins — leave blank unless you need per-location routing with multiple accounts.
Destinations — leave blank for a single account.
Optional settings to consider:
Bill To Terms — set if you want Prepaid, Collect, or 3rd Party applied automatically at dispatch.
Click Test Connection to validate your credentials before saving. A success message confirms Shipwell can reach the R+L API. If it fails, re-check your Unique Key and Account # for typos.
Click Save.
Account configuration
When creating the account, complete the following fields.
Field | Required | How to use it |
Account Name | Yes | Enter a clear, meaningful name. This name appears in rate results beneath the carrier logo. |
Account Credentials | Yes | Enter the account API Key |
Origins | No | Use when multiple accounts apply to different pickup locations, or if the account has location specific rates. Leave blank if one account should work for all origins. |
Destinations | No | Use when multiple accounts apply to different delivery locations, or if the account has location specific rates. Leave blank if one account should work for all destinations. |
Modes | Yes | Select the transportation mode supported by this account, typically LTL. |
Bill To Terms | Conditional | Choose Blank, Prepaid, Collect, or 3rd Party. If not blank, all bill-to contact fields become required. |
Is Rate Share Provider | No | Leave unchecked for a true direct carrier account. |
Account Notes | No | Add internal guidance such as lane usage, billing constraints, or facility-specific instructions. |
Part 3 — Verify It is Working
Once saved, go to the Instant Rate Results screen on a shipment. You should see R+L rates appear with your account name displayed under the carrier logo. If rates do not return, double-check your credentials (especially the Unique Key and Account #).
Bill-to configuration guidance
Bill-to settings affect dispatch behavior and can also impact rating outcomes depending on how XPO validates the request.
If Bill To Terms is not blank, complete all related bill-to fields.
If the shipment already has bill-to data before dispatch, Shipwell keeps the shipment’s existing bill-to information.
If the shipment bill-to is blank and the carrier account contains bill-to data, Shipwell applies the account’s bill-to details during dispatch.
If both shipment and carrier account bill-to data are blank, Shipwell falls back to the company profile bill-to information at dispatch time.
