Old Dominion (OD Freight) Direct Connection Setup

Written by Shipwell TMS Support

Part 1 — Get Your OD Freight Credentials

You will need the following from Old Dominion before configuring anything in Shipwell:

  • ODFL.com Username and Password — your Old Dominion online account login

  • Customer Account Number — found on a previous BOL or invoice

Already have all of these? Skip to Part 2.

Step 1 — Become an OD Customer (if you aren't already)

Call Old Dominion Transportation Services at 1-800-235-5569 to set up a shipping account.

Step 2 — Register for an ODFL.com Account

  1. Go to odfl.com and click Sign Up.

  2. Complete the registration form.

  3. You will receive a confirmation email from Old Dominion within one business day.

Your ODFL.com username and password — along with your Customer Account Number — are all that is needed to connect in Shipwell. There is no separate API key required.

Forgot Your Credentials?

  • Username or Password: Reset via the standard login page at odfl.com.

  • Account Number: Found on any previous BOL or invoice. If you cannot locate it, contact Old Dominion customer service at 1-800-235-5569.

For API integration support, visit the OD Shipping API Integrations page and click Email an Expert.

Part 2 — Configure OD Freight in Shipwell

  1. In Shipwell, navigate to the Carrier Profile for Old Dominion Freight Line.

  2. Click the Accounts tab in the left margin.

  3. Click Add Account.

  4. Fill in the following:

    • Account Name (required) — give it a meaningful name (e.g. "OD Freight - Main").

    • Account Credentials (required) — enter your Username, Password, and Customer Account Number as prompted.

    • Modes (required) — select LTL (and any others that apply).

    • Origins — leave blank unless you need per-location routing with multiple accounts.

    • Destinations — leave blank for a single account.

  5. Optional settings to consider:

    • Allow PRO # Assignment From Carrier — check this to auto-assign a PRO number at dispatch (recommended for LTL).

    • Bill To Terms — set if you want Prepaid, Collect, or 3rd Party applied automatically at dispatch.

  6. Click Test Connection to validate your credentials before saving. A success message confirms Shipwell can reach the OD Freight API. If it fails, re-check your Username, Password, and Account Number for typos.

  7. Click Save.

Part 3 — Verify It is Working

Once saved, go to the Instant Rate Results screen on a shipment. You should see OD Freight rates appear with your account name displayed under the carrier logo. If rates do not return, double-check your credentials — particularly the Account Number.
