How to Add a New Carrier to Your Account

Written by Shipwell Help

Adding a carrier to your Shipwell account allows you to assign them to shipments and manage your carrier relationships. This article covers how to add a carrier from the shipper (broker/shipper) side of the platform.

Steps to Add a Carrier

  1. Navigate to Manage > Carriers in the top navigation menu.

  2. Click + Add Carrier in the top right corner of the page.

  3. You have two options:

    • Search — Type the carrier's Name, MC#, or USDOT number and select the matching result from the dropdown list.

    • Manual Entry — Manually enter the carrier's name, address, contact email, phone number, and identifying codes (MC#, USDOT, SCAC).

  4. Fill in all required fields and click Save.

Common "Invalid Input" Errors

If you receive an "invalid input" error when adding a carrier, check the following:

  • Email field — A contact email is required. Make sure it is formatted correctly (e.g., name@company.com) and not missing.

  • Phone number format — Phone numbers must be entered in the correct format. Try formatting as (XXX) XXX-XXXX or +1XXXXXXXXXX.

  • Identifying codes — If entering an MC#, USDOT, or SCAC, ensure there are no extra spaces, dashes, or incorrect characters.

  • Duplicate carrier — If the carrier already exists in your account under a slightly different name, the system may reject a duplicate entry. Try searching for the carrier first before adding manually.

Tips

  • Use the Search method first — it pulls from Shipwell's carrier database and reduces manual entry errors.

  • If you cannot find the carrier via search, switch to Manual Entry and fill in all required fields carefully.

  • After adding, you can manage the carrier's profile, set up EDI or direct API integrations, and configure carrier instructions from their profile page.
