How to Use Tag Management
Tag management allows you to create reusable tags that can be applied to various objects such as orders, shipments, and carriers across the Shipwell platform.
Managing Tags Centrally
You can create, edit, activate/deactivate, and delete tags directly in the central Tag Management UI.
Navigate to Manage → Company → Tag Management
To create a new tag, click "Create New Tag" and enter the tag name, status, and description.
Select a color for the tag and click Save.
Note: The tag name must be unique. Write a clear description so users know when to use it.
Editing a Tag
Select the tag and click "Edit" to modify its name, color, or description.
Deactivating a Tag
If you want to temporarily stop users from applying a tag (e.g., while training your team or waiting on an API change), you can set its status to Inactive. Inactive tags are no longer available for selection but remain visible on objects they were already applied to.
Deleting a Tag
Select the tag and click "Delete".
Important: Deleting a tag removes it from the available list going forward, but does not retroactively remove it from any orders, shipments, or other objects that already have it applied.
Tagging Objects (Orders, Shipments, Carriers)
Navigate to the object you want to tag (order, shipment, carrier, etc.)
Click on the Tags field in the detail view.
Browse or search the list of existing tags and select the one(s) you want to add.
Click outside the selector or press Enter to save.
To remove a tag: click the X next to the tag name. To remove all tags at once: click "Clear All Tags".
Why Can't I Edit Tags?
A few reasons you might be unable to edit tags on an object:
Permissions: Your account may not have the necessary permissions. Contact your administrator to request access.
Shipment Status: Tags may be locked on shipments in terminal statuses (delivered, reconciled, cancelled).
Archived Objects: Archived records are read-only and cannot be edited, including their tags.
